Thevenard man killed in crash

17/07/2008 4:00:00 AM
A 62-year-old man has died after the car he was driving crashed into a truck on Monday morning.

The couple had to be cut from their Hyundai Excel soon after 8am about 37 kilometres east of Ceduna on the Eyre Highway.

They were from Thevenard but were moving house to Wudinna when the accident occurred.

Police, Country Fire Service, State Emergency Service and SA Ambulance Service personnel all rushed to the scene, but the man died on his way to hospital in Ceduna.

His wife was taken to Ceduna and airlifted to Royal Adelaide Hospital at about 2.30pm suffering unknown injuries.

She was still at the hospital yesterday but her condition was not available.

The truck driver, carrying water tanks, was uninjured. The truck was owned by NE and MM Wiech of Blyth.

Traffic had to be diverted around the crash site and the highway was reopened by the afternoon.

Major Crash investigators from Adelaide were still investigating yesterday.
