Results of Far West Netball Association matches played at Penong and Koonibba courts on Saturday.
A Grade: Westies defeated Thevenard 52-43
In wet windy conditions last years grand finalists took to the court with some nervous play from both teams in the first quarter. Strong defence from L Holness and E Threadgold created many turnovers for Thevenard. Westies came out more settled in the second quarter with steady play, patiently working it to their goal circle. Westies defensive effort lifted in the third quarter forcing Thevy to make errors, with K Nielsen rebounding well. The last quarter saw some good passages of play from both teams although fitness looked to become a factor with some scrappy play also. Westies held their lead to win by 9 goals. Best players: Westies; Meghann Warmington, Thevenard; Lindsay Holness.
Ceduna Blues defeated Koonibba 48-23
Ceduna Blues were more settled and were out to prove they may be the team to watch for this season. Koonibba still trying to sort out their team and still have a few players to come back into the side. Being the first game of the season, all players played well. Ceduna Blues ran out very comfortable winners. Best players: Ceduna Blues; Tracy Bennett, Koonibba; Serena Gunter.
B Grade: Westies defeated Thevenard 48-22
In the first game for the season Westies started strongly with the mother/daughter combination of Lee and Skye Dunn working well. Nyree Trowbridge and Glenda were having a fantastic duel in the Centre and Rhian Trowbridge for Thevy read the ball well all day taking great intercepts. Georgia Sleep for Westies had a full game of juniors, came out and played a brilliant game taking many intercepts at WD. It was a very clean game to watch but Westies were too strong taking out the day. Best players: Westies; Georgia Sleep, Thevenard; Rhian Trowbridge.
Ceduna Blues defeated Koonibba 67-19
Koonibba stepped on the court, with their young side, bit weary of the Ceduna Blues team, with their experience. This did not deter the young Koonibba side; they were up for the challenge. The Koonibba players worked hard, but Ceduna Blues were the most dominate team and ran out comfortable winners. Best players: Ceduna Blues; Melissa Miller, Koonibba; Tiffany Taylor.
C Grade: Thevenard defeated Westies 38-18
The first game of the year started in cold and windy conditions. Goals were hard to come by in the first quarter due to nerves, courts being slippery and rustiness. It was a scrambly game with many turnovers. The long arms of the Thevy defense made it difficult for Westies to score. However S Mahar and A Hoddows accuracy in the goal ring proved to be the winning combination. Best players: Westies; Kelly Sleep, Thevenard; Trudi Riddle.
Ceduna Blues defeated Koonibba 51-28
Being the first game of the season, both teams were keen to get on the court and get started. Koonibba took a while to settle and Ceduna Blues made the most of it. Goalies for both teams shot excellent goals, considering the weather. Ceduna Blues defence was tight and Koonibba had some work to do. Ceduna Blues had a comfortable win. All players played well. Best players: Ceduna Blues; Bianca Mitchell, Koonibba; Jaylene Ware.
D Grade: Westies defeated Thevenard 18-16
In a closely contested match the two teams swapped player positions frequently in an effort to place the right girl in the right spot. As the teams gelled, the standard improved, the game being played in good spirit. Best players: Westies; Kylie Crisp, Thevenard; Shosharna Diment.
Ceduna Blues 1 defeated Koonibba 27-8

Junior A: Westies lost to Thevenard 20-33
It was great to have a Westies Junior A out on the court taking on the visiting team from Thevenard. The game was quite unsettled at times with Thevenard turning the ball over on numerous occassions. With gusty winds the goalies were finding if hard at times to score. Thevenards height and strong hands helped them to win the game quite comfortably. All girls played well with great sportsmanship. Best players: Westies; Skye Dunn, Thevenard; Kyla Paues.
Ceduna Blues defeated Koonibba 31-23
Teams started off even, the game was a very close contest, and it was goal for goal, in the first quarter, with Koonibba leading by only 2 goals. By half time Ceduna Blues made a comeback and made the scores even, 13 all. By the third quarter, Ceduna Blues then lead by 3 goals. In the last quarter Ceduna Blues had ran away with the game and had a good win. It was a good game for the first game of the season. We are in for a good competition in the Junior 'A' for this season. Best players: Ceduna Blues; Tori Ronan, Koonibba; Taynta Haseldine.
Junior B: Westies defeated Thevenard 19-9
The Junior B girls had a greatly contested game on Saturday, everyone had some great pickups and intercepts with all players chasing the ball. Westies came out winners after a really good game. Best players: Westies; Marley Fairclough, Thevenard; Holly Duncan.
Koonibba defeated Ceduna Blues 26-1
Both teams played well, for the first game of the season. Ceduna Blues defence tried hard to stop Koonibba's goalies, at the end of the game, Koonibba had a comfortable win. This game was played in the spirit of the game. Best players: Ceduna Blues; Taylor Collins, Koonibba; Kiama Duckford.
