Ceduna Golf Club held its second qualifying round towards its club championships for 2008 on Sunday.

With the weather forecast predicting strong winds, rain and maybe a thunderstorm or two, several golfers were reconsidering their decision to play Sunday just before hit off.

However, amateur meteorologist Ian McKenzie predicting a rain and thunderstorm free day, which turned out to be correct, put the golfers at ease.

Five C graders entered qualifying rounds, with Richard Culjak posting the lowest round for the grade with 96, with Mick Stewart second for the day with 99.

Only three golfers have qualified with two rounds.

Joint leaders are Mark Nicholls and Mick Stewart on 196 with Richard Culjak a further shot back.

Eight B graders competed for the day and posted the best nett scores for the day with only three of the golfers not playing to their handicaps.

Best score for the day was John Hill with 84, followed by Terry Denton a shot back on 85.

Thirteen golfers have entered at least one card in the B grade, with only three golfers entering two.

Interim leaders are Mal Fricker and John Folkman on 189, with Andy Partington third on 190.

Eight of the nine A graders who played Sunday posted their second cards for the championship.

Best score for the day was Graeme Smart with 76, followed by Ian McKenzie with a 78.

After the first two rounds hot favourite Graeme Smart is the leader on 146 with Ian McKenzie second on 158 with Ben Taylor a shot further back.

Winner of the day's competition went to Terry Denton with 85 off the stick for a nett 64 with Peter Davies runner-up on countback from Richard Culjak with nett 66s.

Next Sunday is the Club Ambrose Championship.

Teams of four golfers can either be nominated or you can be drawn into a group if you wish on Sunday.

There will be a barbecue tea after play on Sunday as well.

Names into the captain's office by 12 noon for a 12.30pm hit off.
